Hello and a warm welcome on my website vintagewellies.com!
My name is Martin and I am the founder of vintagewellies.com. Since I am able to think (which means my whole life more or less) I am fascinated of rubberboots and waders. Let's call it a passion. And why? This question I cannot answer you exactly but the material "rubber" with it's mystic black colour, smell and touch always fascinated me as well as the sturdy look of the old vintage rubberboot and waders style which were manufactured by true human hands. Every pair is unique and has it's own character. No pair is the same as the other - even within the same model and style. So it just happened. In my childhood I already started to collect rubberboots from everywhere.
In the rubberboot history Great Britain always played a major role as a producer of rubber wellington boots and waders. England is well known as a wet and rainy country and the need of waterproof footwear for work and leisure was always a big demand - for professional blue collar- and construction workers, farmers but also for daily use. Their rubberboots and waders were well known and famous all over the world. Some iconic names like BTR, Uniroyal, Unipoly, Hunter and Dunlop - just to name a few. Due to the upcoming industrialisation of the production process in the 70ies and 80ies as well as an increase of the production costs the british hand-made rubberboots and waders disappeared more and more from the market and did make place to the new generation of industrially manufactured PVC boots. Sadly today it is nearly impossible to find this old vintage style of rubberboots and waders style and quality on the market as they are no longer being produced since years now. Well, until today...
Many of your (and my personally) biggest wish was to have these great old vintage styled rubber wellington boots and waders back to present so two yeas ago I started growing my idea to make it real, not only to me but also to you all over the world (to be honest I was sitting on the toilet where it's a zone of silence and nobody disturb you so pleinty of time to think about strange ideas). I had a good contact to a small family-owned rubberboots manufacturer in Argentina which still produces true hand-made boots made of 100% natural rubber, started to design and draw the boot models, made many prototypes to change again some details on the boots until I was satisfied with the final results. And here we are. Hundreds of working hours and a lot of money spent in this project later vintagewellies.com was born. And all this I did beside my normal work, job, my horse and my family. Funny isn't it?
What else I can tell you now? Maybe just to have fun and enjoy the comeback of the most sought after hand-made rubber wellington boots and waders you awaited so long as I did. We are one family and I am proud to be a part of it!
